Who am I?

I am a construction professional who has worked on large infrastructure projects in India and the Middle East as a planner of time and cost. I completed a Master’s programme in Project Management from the University of Manchester in 2012 following which I joined Accuracy’s London office as an Analyst.

Why Accuracy?

After completing the Master’s in Project Management, the PAD practice at Accuracy London presented an interesting and different career option for me having worked for general contractors and project developers previously in my career. My interactions with the team at London presented me with chance to understand the work involved and also the career paths of these experienced professionals with whom I shared a similar construction background. This enabled me to envisage a career in the PAD segment of the industry.

This role at Accuracy offered me an opportunity to utilise my skills developed over my time in the industry and the challenging work I do now offers me excellent on-the-job learning in new areas. Personally, I see a number of areas where I can grow further in Accuracy by getting involved in other service offerings. I also hope to learn some more languages during this time.

My work

My first day at Accuracy involved flying to Barcelona for the “Accuracy School” and partying till late in the night. Although it hasn’t been the same since, but my work with the team at London has been an extremely enjoyable experience.

On a typical project, I am required to liaise with the client and/or lawyers to understand the project and obtain further information in order to firstly, be able to prepare a work plan for approval by them and then carry out detailed analysis as agreed for the engagement. The engagement would be completed by writing up a report to explain the analysis and findings and in some cases have a detailed discussion to explain the findings.

My favourite project

My favorite and most challenging project to date has to be the offshore wind farm project in the UK. It involved an arbitration case between the developer of the off-shore wind farm and a Danish contractor regarding delays to completion of the project involving the design, manufacturing and installation of the foundations to the wind turbine generators and off shore substations.

Due to the offshore nature of the project, the project in general was sensitive to various parameters such as design interfaces, installation vessels selection, weather constraints etc. and our analysis for this delay case had to give due consideration to these parameters which may have been acting at different times during the project. We conducted very extensive analysis of the information available and submitted our independent expert report. The engagement culminated in our expert giving evidence to the arbitral tribunal which was a very interesting end to the long process.

My advice to candidates

Be yourself. Use the interview sessions to know as much about the role and the organisation as you can. The interviewers are more than happy to discuss these during the interviews.

If you are a fresh graduate, be prepared to be involved in a variety of teams working on different service areas and locations.
