Who am I?

My name is Laura Surun and I am a graduate of the HEC (Finance Major – class of 2007). After leaving the HEC I went to the United States to undertake a one-year VIE at a business bank in New York, in the Debt Capital Market Origination department. I joined Accuracy in September 2008 as an analyst.

Why Accuracy?

I chose Accuracy primarily for professional reasons. I liked the idea of working for an independent player in the finance industry, operating in extremely diverse situations (including transaction support and corporate recovery programmes, etc), and I was keen to acquire a solid basis of accountancy and financial skills. The fact that Accuracy is still a very young company also influenced my decision. Additionally, I had heard some very good things about Accuracy from ex-classmates who had been working there for a year.

My work

During my first two years at Accuracy, I carried out projects in virtually all of our business lines, although the majority concerned assessment assignments. This "relative" degree of specialisation gradually emerged from my assignments and my own choosing. In a more concrete manner, my contributions as an associate on a project tend to be highly varied. I generally divide my time between financial modelling, drafting reports, and coaching analysts, etc.

My favourite project

My favourite project at Accuracy was an assignment involving the assessment of intangible assets (audiovisual rights, trademarks, etc) as part of a cultural project. For this very unusual assignment, everything was new and had to be considered from scratch. This included the context, the way in which the subject was to be approached, and the creation of the assessment model. Eventually, the approach that we selected was the result of a great deal of brainstorming by the whole team, from the analyst to the partners, and it was this aspect that I particularly enjoyed.

My advice to candidates

Learn as much as you can about Accuracy before the interviews. During the interview, just be yourself! At Accuracy, we are looking for people who like numbers, who are able to work as a team and enjoy it, You shouldn’t be overly attached to a day-to-day "routine," because you can be posted  on an assignment elsewhere in France or abroad from one day to the next!

Anything to add?

At Accuracy, the staff gets along well together and people enjoy coming to work in the morning. This positive spirit can clearly be seen in their work too. It's partly due to the fact that we have succeeded in maintaining the right balance between work and play. Naturally, it sometimes happens that we don't leave work until late, but this is far from the norm. Besides, it's something which is not only the preview of  junior staff. In these situations, we generally have a real team spirit that prevails and everyone stays to finish whatever needs to be done.
