Who am I?

After graduating from the American School of Madrid, I studied international business at ICADE. Through this program, I had the opportunity to study abroad for two years, in Paris and Montreal. I came back to Spain in 2001 to join a Big Four, where I specialized in transaction support (mainly financial due diligence). Five years later, I moved on to M&A investment banking where I gained valuation, modeling, and process management skills. While at this M&A boutique, I learned about Accuracy through former Big-4 colleagues. In 2008 I joined Accuracy in Spain.

Why Accuracy?

When I joined Accuracy, the firm was still a relatively young in Spain (Madrid was opened in 2006). However, it looked extremely energetic and strong, the senior team was great, and the concept was still open enough to be shaped by new members. This dynamism and the fact that it was new and risky enough to be part of something big from the beginning spurred my interest. I believe in all the values that Accuracy projects; consultancy based on teamwork and with no conflicts of interest. It is a flexible firm that can adapt to multicultural situations in multiple types of jobs and industries.

My work

My job is highly technical. Not only does it require understanding the numbers, but it is also key to interpret figures in a way that deciphers the real story behind any company’s business. What has driven business decisions in the past, why a certain company is shaped they way we see it, and most importantly, to what extent is it ready for the future. What is unique about my job is that according to a project’s needs, I analyze companies in very different situations. For example, I have worked on acquisitions and disposals, reviewed the development of projects like offshore drilling in the oil and gas industry, analyzed the profitability of military aircraft design and construction, and completed return modeling in private equity build-up strategies.

My favourite project

It is difficult to choose a preferred assignment since I have done a huge variety of the different projects. I think I would say that one of my favorite jobs was the review of an LNG construction plant in Lima, Peru. Liquefied natural gas is extracted from the earth in gas format and, in the particular case of the LNG plant that I was studying, it is via a pipeline that began in a jungle and traversed mountains. Once it arrives at the plant, it is liquefied and bottled for transportation across the globe.

This assignment entailed understanding the overall technical side of the project and the consortium financial and operational elements in which our client participated. This required interviews with the most senior people involved, along with other operations and administrative personnel. It meant understanding a very complex financial structure, flow of charges, and any budgetary deviations. Although demanding, the job went very well and we identified a number of financial, reporting, and tax issues that our client greatly appreciated.

My advice to candidates

Candidates should prepare for the interview by Imagining that you are the one who sets up your own company. Who would you hire? What would you want to know from them? What sort of person would you like to work with? Our job is finance related and technical, but it requires team effort and joint brainstorming. It requires actively speaking to many different people from many different backgrounds. You need to be someone who adapts and is open to discussion, yet acts with very clear objectives. A candidate needs to be dynamic, proactive, technical, cultured, logical, etc. I guess my one piece of advice is, be motivated and prepare for the interview by thinking about what you would like to know.

My hobbies

I have way too many time-consuming hobbies. Most importantly, I have a family and I enjoy all the time I can spend with them. I am also a musician and am currently recording a second album with my band (Solochics). I really enjoy windsurfing in the summer and skiing in the winter. At Accuracy hobbies are valued because they help build and shape a person’s outlook and motivation. We strive for a healthy work life balance and truly believe that this is the way that people become better, motivated, and more efficient professionals.
