Who am I?

François, I’ve been working at Accuracy since August 2010. After two years of preparatory classes for the ‘Grandes Écoles’, I joined ESCP in 2006. During my gap year, I did two six month internships: one in an investment bank (M & A) in Paris and another in the financial department of a consulting firm in New York. These two finance internships helped a lot in my future career planning and led me to specialise in corporate finance at ESCP, and then to join Accuracy at the end of my studies.

Why Accuracy?

For four reasons: technical financial requirements, diversity (of issues, industries, business lines), client contact and the work environment.

After leaving business school, I wanted to find a job that was stimulating whilst enabling personal development. Through talking to some Accuracy consultants, I quickly realized that this was the right choice: high-quality professionals, small sized teams in which I would be constantly challenged and given a real sense of responsibility, and all this within a friendly atmosphere and close proximity to all levels of management. On the whole, Accuracy is a company where I have the chance to learn a lot quickly and on a daily basis.

I also chose Accuracy because its business model is, for me, the best alternative to the more ‘traditional’ corporate finance professions (investment banks, the “Big 4”, finance departments ...).

My work

The diversity is really what makes up my days.
I had the opportunity to work on several due diligence projects, buy side or sell side, on some recovery/restructuring projects, but also on two litigations for CAC 40 companies and on an EBA project (Economics & Business Analysis). I alternated between short projects (2-3 weeks) or longer (3 months), and spent a lot of time with the client in its premises.

As an associate, my work is to think about the way the work could be carried out, to perform some of the analyses and to supervise an analyst working on other topics. In order to do so, I am supervised by a manager or by a partner and I am continuously in contact with them and our client.

My favourite project

My favorite project was when we advised a company from the Persian Gulf in its acquisition of an industrial French company which was under bankruptcy proceedings. Among others, we performed a business plan analysis and helped our client to build its final proposal (purchasing price, investments needed, number of employees taken back, list of assets taken over…). Our objective was then to convince the Commercial Court that this offer was better than those of the competitors. This project included a detailed visit of the production site, interviews with the management and all of this in a high-pressure environment.

My advice to candidates

Be pragmatic! Always keep in mind that our job is to respond to a specific problem and a solution derived from common sense is often the best answer. The formulas and concepts are only financial tools and it is important to understand the underlying assumptions and reasoning in order to apply these tools correctly. This is what makes you valuable: your critical mind.

Work atmosphere

The work atmosphere was a decisive factor in my choosing to join Accuracy.  Informal drinks are often organised in the office, the management is quite transparent and there are many sport activities (I'm a member of the football team “The Burgundies”, and with another analyst, I set up tennis and squash activities).

It is also a company in which work-life balance is considered essential and, given my past experiences, it is a definite plus.
