A typical day in the life of an Accuracy consultant

What would my daily life be like at Accuracy?

There are no set roles within Accuracy teams as they differ according to the assignment. Each team is carefully chosen to best meet the needs of the assignment, and it is at this point that the various roles are defined.

The distribution of tasks is not done on a hierarchical basis, in line with each person’s grade, but in a totally transversal manner. The problems and tasks at hand are distributed among the team members according to their level of difficulty.

Consequently, an analyst may be given complete responsibility to solve a problem, ideally including drafting their part of the report. They will be assisted in this task by the associate, manager, or even the partner working with them in the team. This not only provides an opportunity to learn more quickly but also guarantees a greater variety of work in their assignments.

More generally, the role of the analyst is to become autonomous and reliable as soon as possible. That of the associate is to coach the analyst through assistance and training, whilst at the same time carrying out their own work. That of the manager is to organise each person's work, verify the work carried out, train the team and to work on their own analyses.

The duration and organisation of an assignment

What is the average duration of an assignment?

What makes the Accuracy model so special is the fact that the length of the assignments vary a great deal, but are usually quite short.

In general, the assignments can last anything from two weeks to two months, with an average length of three to four weeks. However, in certain emergency cases the assignments may only last a week, or at the other end of the scale, some assignments may span several months.

Our dispute resolution and arbitration work follows a completely different time-frame, with a total duration that can exceed a year in some cases. However, they are divided into smaller sub-phases of three to four weeks each, and thus work to a similar time-frame as the other assignments.

    Close

The duration and organisation of an assignment

What is the typical organisational structure for an assignment in terms of the number of managers/consultants from each level?

In the same way the duration of assignments vary, so do their organisation. We are particularly adaptable and work on a case-by-case basis.

However, if we had to describe the set-up of a 'standard' team, it would consist of around two to six people, led by one or multiple partners. So on average, therefore, it is a team of four people, including a consultant of each grade, ranging from analyst to partner. However, there are many cases where a partner works directly with an associate or an analyst in a smaller team, or, on the contrary, where two or three partners work together on an assignment, involving a team which can include up to ten people.

The make-up of our teams is definitely one of our strong points, as it is rare to find more analysts on an assignment than managers and partners. Generally speaking, the whole team joins up in one of our offices or on the client’s premises to work together on the assignment allocated to them.

    Close

    Client contact

How much contact with the clients do the juniors have?

The whole assignment team works together, therefore they all have the same degree of client contact.

Consequently, when there is a possibility to visit the client’s site, all of the consultants (regardless of their level) are involved and the youngest are encouraged to take initiative and ask the client direct questions.

    International coverage

    Is Accuracy an international company?

Accuracy is a European company which has offices in seven countries (France, Spain, Netherland, Italy, Germany, Belgium and United Kingdom) and operates all around the world. Consequently, a significant number of assignments require our teams to travel internationally, sometimes for several weeks at a time.

Furthermore, as many of our assignments are international in nature, we encourage mixed teams, often involving consultants from several of our offices.

    Close

    International coverage

    Are assignments abroad very frequent?

Our teams are regularly required to travel abroad, whether or not we have an office in the country in question. Although it is difficult to quote an average figure, it would be fair to say that we have two or three teams outside the country at any one time.

    Close

    Internal mobility

Is it possible to work internationally?

There are two ways to work internationally at Accuracy:
    - During international travel required for your assignment;
    - Joint teams of consultants from several of our offices in order to fully benefit from everyone's skills.

In all cases, the international scene forms an integral part of our work.

    Close

    Internal mobility

Is it possible to visit the offices abroad?

A large number of our consultants travel from one of our offices to another. For example, during the joint assignments that are regularly organised.

It is also possible to work temporarily in another office in order to increase skills and knowledge, such as improving language skills or learning new specific financial techniques with a view to sharing these skills with other offices.

Finally, it is also possible for a consultant to request a long-term, or even permanent, transfer to another of our offices. There is no minimum or maximum period of service required in any of our offices.

What makes Accuracy so different on a day-to-day basis? (Is it the flexible hierarchical structure, greater contact with senior staff, specific corporate values or different events, etc?)

Accuracy attaches great importance to the quality of human relationships within its teams. Transparency, a flexible hierarchical structure, the proximity of the partners and a relaxed communication style are all key features of these relationships. Numerous events are organised for this purpose, whether at a European or national level, or even on a team or mentoring group level.

On top of this, each person can and should contribute to assuring the continuous improvement of our working conditions by proposing new ideas, participating in focus groups and putting these ideas into practice. It's thanks to our consultants that we currently have an urban football team, a mountaineering team and a running team - and that's just to mention three good examples!

We hear a great deal about the fantastic atmosphere to be found at Accuracy. Is this really the case?

The best way to gauge the atmosphere within our teams is to come along and meet us during the forums, at the various events we organise (in educational venues or our own offices), or simply talk to some of the former students who’ve joined us. Their accounts of life at Accuracy should tell you all you need to know!

Accuracy naturally attaches a great deal of importance to the workplace atmosphere and to the well-being of its teams. This means a willingness to always hear their latest ideas and opinions, a flexible hierarchical structure, dynamic offices, and above all, the large number of internal events organised to enjoy the friendly team spirit that is so important to us.

Why and how was Accuracy a winner of a Great Place to Work award two years’ running?

Two years ago we made a conscious decision to participate in the Great Place to Work awards, and for the past two consecutive years we have been among the prize-winners. We'd also like to add that Accuracy is the only French company with fewer than 500 employees to be listed in the European Top 50 of these listings.

These awards are based mainly on feedback from all of our employees, provided through an anonymous survey carried out by this organisation. Therefore, it is their opinions which have enabled us to achieve these extraordinary results.

This success rewards our ongoing commitment to maintaining a great working environment for our teams. Furthermore, we regularly organise focus groups in order to share our ideas on how these working conditions could be further improved.

    Career development

Describe a typical career development route at Accuracy?

There is no typical career development route. Our aim is to enable everyone to progress based on their own ambitions and at their own pace.

A consultant will be promoted from the position of analyst, to that of associate, and subsequently to that of manager, and finally partner, either by remaining in a generalist role for as long as possible or by opting to specialise in one of our disciplines.

No set career route is mapped out for our employees as we encourage consultants to vary their experience as much as possible during their first years at Accuracy.

    Close

    Career development

Do you practice active career management?

Yes of course! One of the partners manages the Human Resources Department and personally monitors the careers of each consultant, based on the reviews conducted at the end of assignments, on the opinions of the other partners, and most importantly, on the feelings and wishes of the consultant.

A consultant reviews their career every six months with their mentor and the partner responsible for their mentoring group.

    Close

    Career development

What sort of salary can an analyst expect to receive?

All analysts join the company at the same pay level. This is comprised of a fixed salary, a bonus and a profit-sharing scheme. In general, the level of remuneration at Accuracy tends to fall in the upper half pay range for the consultancy profession.

    Close

    Specialisation

    Do Accuracy consultants practice specialisation?

At Accuracy, we encourage our consultants to vary their experience as much as possible, especially at the start of their career, in order to benefit from both a more extensive learning programme and a greater self-fulfilment through ever-changing assignments.

Each consultant can choose if they wish to remain in a generalist role for a longer period, or to specialise in one or two areas, so as to become an expert in these fields.

    Close

    Specialisation

Is it possible to work in several fields at Accuracy?

Yes, and in fact, this is almost always the case! We take great care in ensuring that our consultants work on a wide variety of assignments in order to provide them with the most comprehensive experience possible.

What's more, most of our assignments require skills from several fields, so our consultants are constantly working on cross-disciplinary assignments or combining several of our specialities.

    Close

    Training

    How will I be trained?

Training is our main goal and we commit vast amounts of resources to this. The training programme at Accuracy is constantly being improved and is described in detail in the "Your Career" section of the Accuracy Career webpage.

This training is organised around three key features:

    - The School: an intensive two-week basic training course (one week in France and one in Spain) for all new arrivals.

    - Frequent training sessions throughout the year, mainly in technical, commercial and behavioural subjects. The training sessions are provided either by experienced consultants or by external service providers.

    - Intensive and ongoing fieldwork training, owing to the modest sizes and high seniority levels of our teams, as well as to the arrangement of our offices, where each consultant shares their office with an experienced partner or manager.

    Close

    Training

Do you have a training programme?

Yes, in addition to the two week basic training programme (the School), a complete training programme is designed to match the experience of each participant. This programme is adapted to the requirements of each grade, and includes highly technical, commercial, and behavioural training, as well as training in general knowledge areas!

Along with this training, we've added language courses to the mix and are always on the look-out for new training ideas from our consultants.

    Training

How is staff induction and integration organised?

We pay great attention to ensuring that all new arrivals settle in as fast, and as smoothly as possible. The integration process kicks off with a welcome get-together to celebrate the arrival of the new team member, followed by an introduction to all of the teams and they are shown their new office, which is shared with longer serving consultants and an experienced manager or partner.

Upon arrival, every new consultant is welcomed by their mentor. The mentor is a more experienced consultant who will be a key contact in helping the new consultant with their integration and the monitoring of their career progress. This mentor is part of a "mentoring group", led by a "super-mentor" who is a Partner in charge of the career development of each mentor and their respective mentees.

    Acquired experience and next steps

What sort of skills can I expect to acquire with my first job at Accuracy?

In addition to the high degree of discipline and rigour inherent in the consultancy profession, choosing Accuracy for your first job will enable you to acquire advanced accounting, financial and economic skills. However, you will also acquire real business skills thanks to the sheer diversity of the assignments and situations encountered. A new consultant carries out on average more than 15 assignments per year! The high degree of interaction with our clients and teamwork allows you to gain extensive interpersonal skills, which will serve you well in any profession.

    Acquired experience and next steps

What sort of careers will be open to me after Accuracy?

All kinds of careers are possible after Accuracy!

Although we encourage our consultants to develop their careers at Accuracy for as long as possible, we also assist them when they are considering a change of career. We do our best to help them find the right fit, whether it concerns a similar type of role or a complete change of direction.

Among the few consultants who have left Accuracy, we are happy to report that they've found stimulating new careers. For example, one consultant joined a leading strategy consultancy company and another moved abroad to successfully participate in the creation of an investment fund. Two of our ex-consultants today work for the Strategy & Development Department of major listed groups. We should also mention two former employees who chose highly original careers, one has become a professional poker player and the other an actress!

The applicant profiles we are seeking

What sort of work placements should I have undertaken?

We don't have any specific requirements concerning previous experience, work placements or jobs. What sort of experience do you look for when recruiting?

We give preference to candidates with relevant experience, whether in the corporate finance or consultancy fields. What sort of skills are you seeking?

We prefer candidates to be familiar with the basics of accountancy and finance, and to have a solid grasp of financial concepts far beyond the theoretical knowledge. What are the key characteristics you look for in an applicant?

In addition to technical skills, we are mainly seeking candidates with excellent analytical skills and the ability to succinctly summarise information. A high degree of commitment and energy, a taste for teamwork and collective thinking, the will to continue learning at all times, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a high degree of adaptability would also give your application a substantial boost.

These characteristics will hold you in good stead for working in a demanding environment where quality and deadlines are of paramount importance, and to do so in an atmosphere which is pleasant and stimulating for all involved.

How do I know if I'm the right person for your business?

The best way to find out whether Accuracy’s activities are right for you is to meet us, either at the forums or at one of the events which we organise in universities or our offices. You could also try contacting alumni from your university currently working at Accuracy, as they are well-placed to describe their daily work and their activities, giving you a good insight into life at Accuracy.

The applicant profiles we are seeking

What is the ideal applicant profile for Accuracy? There isn't one

There is no standard "ideal" profile when applying to Accuracy. We are looking for applicants with distinct personalities, people who are able to challenge us on a day-to-day basis and with whom we share the same values.

What level of financial knowledge is required in order to apply to Accuracy?

As well as a basic level of financial knowledge, we also like to ensure that the applicant possesses a sufficient understanding of accountancy and financial principles relative to their studies. It goes without saying that we wouldn't expect the same level of knowledge from a student who has undertaken a basic accountancy course as we would from a business school finance graduate.

    The recruitment process

How does the recruitment process work at Accuracy?

The recruitment process is described in the "Join Us" section on the Accuracy Careers website.

In order to apply to Accuracy, you can meet us at a forum or apply online by sending a short CV with a cover letter. Each application is examined and a reply is sent out. If it is positive we will be contacting you to follow up on your application; if negative then unfortunately your profile does not correspond to what we are looking for at this time.

The process includes four interviews of one hour each. These interviews are conducted by two consultants from Accuracy. There is an initial mutual presentation interview, a second interview focusing on technical aspects, a third interview focusing on the personality of the applicant, and a final interview which is more general in nature.

Applicants can also meet with two consultants of a similar age and profile, for an informal chat about Accuracy’s work life. This does not form part of the selection process. This discussion generally takes place following the final interview and provides an opportunity for the applicant to ask any remaining questions in a more relaxed setting.
